The Democratic Republic of Congo is the fourth most populous country in Africa. The rapid growth of its population and the high rate of poverty found there are major challenges for its development. Most of its population is unable to feed itself decently due to lack of financial means.

This lack of access to basic food is a serious social imbalance in a rich country like the DRC. Food insecurity reduction structures or program are almost non-existent. As a result, the population is abandoned to its sad fate and access to food remains a luxury and a mystery for some.

However, it should be noted that food insecurity is much more than a question of access to food. It causes other problems such as malnutrition, various diseases, etc.

Thus, in accordance with article 37 of the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Congo relating to the human rights, fundamental freedoms and duties of the citizen and the State; also in accordance with Law No 004/2001 of 20 July 2001 laying down general provisions applicable to non-profit associations and public utility institutions, in order to fight against insecurity and food insecurity in rural areas, a non-profit association is created as a non-governmental organization in the Democratic Republic of Congo called “Mapendo Food Bank”, ASBL. It is a food bank with a mission to collect food products and redistribute them to vulnerable people. Through this action, the organization aims to restore social balance and adequate and sustainable access to food.
